Stephen Dell, Founder and President of NOVUM, was retained as the damages expert by Russ August and Kabat on behalf of Core Wireless Licensing S.A.R.L. (“Core Wireless”). Mr. Dell provided testimony regarding the reasonable royalty damages owed to Core Wireless as a result of LG Electronics’ infringement of two standard essential patents that improve battery life, voice quality, and call reliability in mobile phones that are compatible with the GSM (2G) and UMTS/HSPA+ (3G) cellular standards.

On February 27, 2019, after a three day trial only on the issue of damages, a jury accepted the opinions that Mr. Dell presented at trial in their entirety and awarded Core Wireless $3,495,712 in damages. Subsequently, on March 7, 2019, Chief District Judge Rodney Gilstrap entered Final Judgment on the damages awarded by the jury, as well as ordered LG to pay Core Wireless an additional $699,142 in enhanced damages for their previously determined willful infringement of Core Wireless patents.
